“What’s a Pokemon League?”

A Pokemon league is a place where trainers can get together and casually play the Pokemon trading card game, video game, trade cards, or just get together and talk Pokemon.

“What’s a Player ID, and why do I need one?”

When you create an account on Pokemon.com you are verifying that you are a real person. We use this number to tell The Pokemon Company that you are a member of our league and they send us supplies based on the number of registered members. This means more prizes for you!

“What are TCG and VG?”

These are initialisms for The Card Game (TCG) and Video Game (VG).

“What do I need to play Pokemon TCG/VG?”

To play Pokemon TCG, especially for beginners, I suggest a theme deck. You can get these at Gamestop, Target, Walmart, and/or Toys R us. To play the VG you need a 3DS or 2DS and one of the more current games of Pokemon (X and Y or Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire) these can be bought at Gamestop, Target, Walmart, and/or Toys R us,

“Can I join the league without a Player ID?”

Yes. You can come to league and play Pokemon with other members without a Player ID, but you will not be a member. This means you will not be able to participate in all league activities and earn prizes. You can find help with obtaining a Player ID here. If you are under 13 years of age please have your parent/guardian visit our Parents Den for more info.

“I don’t know how to play the Trading Card Game?”

No worries, that’s what we’re here for. We can teach you how to play. We have everything you need to learn.

“Are there age restrictions?”

If you can READ you can PLAY. There are no age restrictions. We have members of all ages.

Does this give me Championship Points or Play Points?

Leagues do not give Championship points, only gives Play! points. You can find more information about Play! points here.
